Shila McKinney, Population Health Program Supervisor, has dedicated more than 17 years to the field of emergency preparedness and public health at the Jefferson County Department of Health in Birmingham, Alabama. She holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Throughout her career, Shila has collaborated with partners across the community to mitigate the effects of emergencies on the citizens of Jefferson County. She has contributed to the planning and response efforts for numerous emergencies and large-scale events including H1NI influenza outbreak, Hurricane Gustav, mpox outbreak, the 2022 World Games and COVID-19 pandemic. As part of the COVID-19 pandemic response, Shila served as Incident Manager for the health department and coordinated multiple testing and vaccination clinics.
