Karl Bryant earned his bachelor’s degree in graphic design and photography from Troy State University in 2004. Prior to joining the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), Mr. Bryant worked for 3 years as an art director at an advertising agency. Mr. Bryant joined ADPH in 2008 as a Marketing Specialist, developing statewide educational and marketing materials for all public health programs in the Communications and Social Marketing Branch. While working in this branch of public health, he was promoted to the classification of Health Services Administrator. Additional duties involved managing the in-house print shop business operations and the print shop staff.

In 2017, he transferred to the Office of Management Support (OMS). In OMS, he oversaw 46 budgets for various state and federal ADPH programs with funding totaling over $19 million. He worked with programs to resolve issues with payroll, procurement, grants, and contracts, and served as a liaison between programs and the department’s finance office. Mr. Bryant has worked at ADPH for over 17 years and joined the Office of Primary Care and Rural Health (OPCRH) in November 2019 to serve as the FLEX and SHIP program manager. In less than 6 months, due to a worldwide pandemic and a few retirements, Mr. Bryant was appointed as Director of OPCRH, now supervising a staff of
6 employees.
