Shumethia Seal, MPH is the Health Department Manager for Charleston County and Mt. Pleasant Health Departments at the South Carolina Department of Public Health. A proud graduate of the University of Florida and Drexel University, she was inspired to pursue a career in public health due to her passion for community health and wellness.
Shumethia began her journey in public health and management with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health and the immunization program as the Vaccines for Children Coordinator. She continued her career with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health as the Vaccine Manager. In both roles she managed medium-sized teams focused on providing federal and state-funded vaccines to providers at no-cost. In 2022, she transitioned to her current role with South Carolina Department of Public Health, managing health departments in Charleston County and Mount Pleasant.
Among her most current accomplishments are receiving two director’s coins for outstanding service, helping to reinstate immunizations in Charleston County after a five-year hiatus, and mentoring staff toward promotional opportunities.
In her spare time, Shumethia volunteers at the local library, offering classes on resume and interview readiness. She is an avid reader and music lover.
