I serve as the Health Education Coordinator at the Franklin County Health Department (FCHD) in Frankfort, Kentucky. I joined FCHD in 2016 after earning a Master’s Degree in Wellness Promotion from Morehead State University.
Frankfort is the capital of Kentucky but is made up of mostly rural farmland. Since I was born and raised here, working with FCHD has given me the unique opportunity to serve, help, and give back to my community.
Throughout my time at FCHD, I have had the opportunity to be a member of and/or serve on local, state, and national coalitions. These include: NACCHO’s Healthy Living and Prevention Workgroup; Kentucky Safety and Prevention Alignment Network (KSPAN); Kentucky Local Health Department Academy of Science (AOS); Franklin County Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) Coalition; Kentucky Youth Vaping Task Force-Intervention and Cessation Task Force; and most recently the newly formed Frankfort CARES Coalition to name a few.
In addition, I was a member 2019 Kentucky Population Health Leadership Institute (KPHLI) cohort, which led to a partnership with the Kentucky Department of Public Health Office of Health Equity to co-author, A Primer of Local Health Departments to Create a Culture of Health Equity. The purpose of this document is to support local health departments view policies, programs, and services through a health equity lens.
