Lataya Flowers joined the Alabama Department of Public Health in 2020. A native of Montgomery, AL. Lataya has a diverse work history that spans various industries and roles. She started her career as an Accounts Payable Manager after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Auburn University Montgomery. After a few years in accounting, she transitioned into a Post-Secondary Education administrative roll with Alabama State University’s Small Business Development Center, before transitioning to the Equal Justice Initiative in 2019, where she successfully honed her communication and problem-solving skills. Throughout her work history, she has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic, adaptability, and a passion for learning and growing professionally.
She is currently the Registration Supervisor for the Center for Health Statistics. She oversees the activities of the registration staff to ensure all births, paternity affidavits, fetal deaths, reports of induced termination, death, marriage, and divorce records are filed accurately. She recognizes accurate vital records are not only essential for individuals to access grants and resources, but they also play a crucial role in demographic data collection, public health planning, disease surveillance and research. She is passionate about helping people thrive by promoting equity and access to resources.
